The Duolingo English Test is a modern language exam, which efficiently and accurately evaluates knowledge of the English language. The test is available online, for only $49 (US dollars). You don’t need to make an appointment or go to a test center – you can take the test from home or any other place, using a computer connected to the Internet and a web camera.
The test is administered using a computerized adaptive technology, which means that the difficulty of the questions adapts to each test taker. The test also includes a video interview and a written test, which are sent to the institutions, together with the score obtained at the end of the test.
The whole experience lasts under an hour. The test results are available in 48 hours, and the obtained certificate can be shared with an unlimited number of institutions.
Duration and structure of the test
Quick setup (5 minutes)
– an introduction in which the rules and requirements of the test are explained
Testing (45 minutes)
– the section in which reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English are evaluated and scored
Video interview (10 minutes)
– the section that records the answer to open questions, without scoring
